Losing Our Listening?

Executive coaching is an act of inquiring, feeding back, and eliciting excellence, often with some wise counsel thrown in for good measure. At the core, it is about paying careful attention to a leader and their unique strengths, to what they want to achieve, to their thinking patterns and their external and internal obstacles. At the core great coaching is powered by listening. In this short video there is a wonderful acronym – RASA, for Receive, Appreciate, Summarize, and Ask. I believe that is the essence of what we do when we help leaders to improve their effectiveness through one-on-one coaching relationships.

I was so excited to see this wonderful new TED talk about conscious listening from Julian Treasure, author of Sound Business and chair of The Sound Agency – a firm that advises worldwide businesses how to use sound. Check it out, and think about the implications of LOSING OUR LISTENING, and how we can get it back.
