Coaching Biography:

I work best with leaders who are up to something big, really want to go for it and are open to having help to step fully into their power. They may want to radically transform their personal leadership, achieve a compelling vision or shift an entire system. My most successful engagements have been with highly analytical people that also have a sense that they can be successful, fulfilled and help the world be a better place at the same time.

I grew up and began my professional career as a hyper-over-achiever and completely focused on making a lot of money. I was miserable doing everything that I thought I needed to do in order to get rich. While I didn't realize it at the time, it was not having any sense of purpose - the actual impact I wanted to have on the world - that made me so unhappy. I've transformed who I was into someone who combines achievement with fulfillment in ways that amplify each other.

I help people develop leadership at the levels of the "Self," the "We" and the "Stuff." Self Leadership forges powerful personal leadership by developing a sense of purpose, leading in alignment with that purpose and transforming the unconscious beliefs that get in our way. We Leadership creates culture that achieves results by evolving how we communicate, influence and shift group conversations. Stuff Leadership revolutionizes how we develop strategic insights and then create the structures and systems to capitalize on them. At all levels, I help leaders discover what factors operate unseen in the background so they have the power to change them.

Prior to focusing on leadership and organization development, Derek spent 10 years in strategy consulting, leveraged buyouts and investment banking. Most recently, he independently provided M&A and venture capital advisory services to technology, services and manufacturing companies, and in collaboration with a boutique management consulting firm, led strategy consulting engagements with multi-billion dollar Japanese multi-nationals in the food, healthcare, equipment leasing, transportation and technology industries. He was formerly the Director of Business Development for Capital.com, arranging strategic partnerships for this middle-market business financing, acquisitions and financial services marketplace. As an Associate with American Capital Strategies, he analyzed and negotiated private equity investments and worked with portfolio companies on strategic and operational initiatives. Derek began his career as an Analyst and Senior Analyst with Broadview International, an investment bank providing merger and acquisition advisory services to information technology companies that was later acquired by Jeffries.
